As part of our commitment to corporate social responsibility, a group of volunteers from W. K. To & Co. took 25 underprivileged children from Po Leung Kuk's Blue Sky Food Assistance Service Project (保良局天朗膳糧坊短期食物援助服務計劃) to "Our Hands Farm" (一對手農舍) in Yuen Long on 25 November 2017. ("Blue Sky Food Assistance Service Project" is funded by the Social Welfare Department to help and solve temporary hardship arising from cost of living, for those individuals and families who have proven difficulties in coping with daily expenditure.)
The farm owner kicked off the activity by giving an introduction about the farm, which mainly offers products made with raw materials from organic farming in order to promote a healthy diet to children and the importance of food safety. The farming instructors then taught us how to prepare food with all kinds of raw ingredients. With the encouragement from our volunteers, the children managed to make their own bread, creamy mashed potato and dumplings. We even prepared the roselle tea and jam as dessert after the meal! Both adults and children had a lot of fun and we all agreed that organic food tasted fresher and sweeter.
W. K. To & Co. has been partnering with Po Leung Kuk, one of the largest local charitable organizations, for multiple CSR initiatives. We always cherish the opportunity to get to know the PLK beneficiaries and have long recognized the importance of giving back to the local community.
